Barks & Brews: Monnik Beer’s Dog Day of Summer Returns Special Beer Release To Benefit Kentucky Humane Society August 1, 2023 (Louisville, KY) -- After a two-year hiatus, Monnik Beer Co. is excited to announce the return of their Dog Day of Summer fundraiser. Set for Saturday, August 5, from 12-8pm, the event is once again set to take place in its Schnitzelberg taproom. This year’s event includes a unique collaboration with Louisville Ale Trail, introducing a special edition beer celebrating Louisville-area canines on an innovative label.
Showcasing nearly twenty local dogs, each square in the label’s collage translates to a $100 donation to the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS), turning this limited-edition beer into a tapestry of community giving. The collaboration hopes to raise awareness and significant funds for the essential work carried out by KHS. "We are so excited that Monnik Beer Company and Louisville Ale Trail are hosting the Dog Day of Summer and creating a special beer label featuring adorable local dogs,” said Haley Aldridge, KHS Community Relations Manager. “Their support will help the Kentucky Humane Society find homes for shelter pets and keep families and pets together.” Dog Day of Summer promises to be a fun-filled day for dogs and their owners. The event will feature outdoor pools, sprinklers, dog-forward vendors, and even a dog show. Categories include Waggiest Tail, Best Trick, Dog Most Like Its Owner, Best Outfit, Most Chillest, Fluffiest, Coolest Hair Do, and People's Choice Award. The dog show begins at 4 pm. Those interested can register with a $1 donation between 2-4pm. All proceeds from the dog show and a portion of the beer sales will be donated to the Kentucky Humane Society and Project K-9 Hero. Additionally, KHS will be on-site with dogs available for adoption and will be accepting direct donations. Louisville Ale Trail & Monnik Beer Create "Dog Days of Summer" collab to benefit Kentucky Humane SocietyRead NowUPDATE: ALL SPOTS TAKEN! We'll see you at Monnik on August 5th for the beer release.

The limited run label itself serves as part of the fundraising efforts of the event. We're issuing a call to action for all local dog lovers and encourage them to donate to the Kentucky Humane Society. In return, a “1x1” print of their beloved dogs will be immortalized on our beer label. Featuring nearly twenty local dogs and a $100 donation for each entry, we proudly present what we believe is The World’s Most Expensive Beer Label. This distinct beer and label combo will be available in limited quantities on August 5th, the day of the event. To cap it off, the Kentucky Humane Society will be on-site with adorable dogs ready for adoption and open for further donations. Click here to donate and get your dog on the beer can. This week the guys are joined by the one and only Jeff Faith. Jeff is a fixture in Louisville for his laid-back and “dudely” presence, his skills on the bass, his fixing up of airplanes and old boats, and for resurrecting the classic Fehr’s Beer. In Louisville’s pre-prohibition era, Fehr’s was among the biggest breweries in the country, with distribution nationwide. Over the 20th century, the brand declined and disappeared until Jeff’s passion for reviving cool, vintage things led him to acquire the lapsed trademark and set him on a mission to bring Fehr’s back in as historically accurate a way as possible. Today you can find Fehr’s XL on draft and in cans to-go at Akasha Brewing Company. We also put Jeff to the test on his favorite movie “The Big Lebowski,” discussed his growing obsession with bees and boats, and bid a fond farewell to Anchor Christmas Ale. Featured Beers:

A day of excitement, community, and comradery, Kentucky Craft Bash, is organized by the Kentucky Guild of Brewers serving as an invitation for Guild members to showcase their craft in one shared space. Here are five reasons why this year's festival was the best yet. 1. THE BEER This one has to be obvious but clearly the beer is the star of the show here. With 150+ offerings this festival offered the opportunity to taste from all over Kentucky not just our backyard of Louisville. Of course the local Louisville Ale Trail stops all brought the heat and our friends from around the state did as well. Some standouts from what we tried (there was A LOT of beer to sample) were; Scout and Scholar Ol' Buddy Lager, Ethereal Brewing Baba Yaga Joyful, Darkness Brewing Mayan Sacrifice, The Brew Bridge Biru, The Void Sake Coconut Sake, and so many others. 2. SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES The Vendor programming absolutely killed it this year. While savoring your special beers you could have been doing any of the following; Throwing axes with Flying Axes, dancing your ass off with Sam Sneed, Dunking a brewer in a dunk tank, brewing a beer with the LAGERS Homebrew Club, watching the homies from Home Skateshop flip and grind, or even tossing cornhole to win tickets to Jtown Beerfest or Frazier Summer Beer Fest! 3. FOOD GOOD FOOD One thing that is an absolute must when drinking beer is having that perfect meal mid fest to power through the entire event. Craft Bash nailed all the staple offerings like Ramiro's Cantina for tacos, Hometown Pizza for slices, Red Top Hot Dogs for the most over the top dogs you could ask for, and even sweet treats from Brown Butter Crumble Co. These along with other food vendors went the extra mile to make sure everyone was fed and happy while also offering some vegetarian options. It was so delicious that my phone forgot to eat first. Trust us. 4. NOT JUST CRAFT BEER Beer wasn't the only craft option at this festival. Intermingled with the brewery tents was a great group of local artists with their wares to showcase. The Craftist delighted our olfactory with their handcrafted soaps in unique scents like Appletini, Leatherhead, and Rum Runner. Sunblind Fine Art + Wearables wouldn't pierce my ears but they were selling special earrings of all shapes from pints and mugs to flowers and more. There were even options for your furry friends that weren't allowed to attend with Lola D's Dog Treats serving up fresh baked goods for the love of dogs. 5. A TOAST TO UNDERBERG Underberg is a special drink amongst us beer lovers. The tiny 20ml bottle adorned with a green wax cap is a digestive blend of herbs from 43 countries and the perfect way to break up hours of a beer festival. A 'Berg Break is essential at a festival so we at the Louisville Ale Trail invited attendees to join us in a toast at 3pm. Organizers, Brewers, and patrons joined together in a glorious Underberg toast leaving us all refreshed and ready for the rest of the fest.
This week, the gang is joined by Rich Shanks from Louisville's newest brewery, Kyros Brewing, as well as special guest host, Madelaine Ruggles.
We discuss: the Kyros ethos on business, family, and community, why they and their community love their Portland neighborhood, their unique secret beer garden, and more. Rich also shares his love of bourbon and cigars. Moeller nails his J. Jonah Jameson and Cosmo Kramer impressions, and in the spirit of Kyros' greek origin, we discover which ancient Greek god we really are. Which Greek God Are You?
